RollerFORM wheel scanning rack

Phased array wheel probe

Non immersion C-scan detection

Olympus launches a new phased array wheel probe: RollerFORM, Used for detecting composite materials and other materials with smooth surfaces commonly used in the aerospace industry. The RollerFORM, which is reasonably priced and easy to operate, can not only replace the full two-dimensional coding system, but also provide a highly feasible detection technology equivalent to water immersion technology.

RollerFORM has been specially developed and its tires are made of a unique material that ensures high-quality ultrasonic testing similar to water immersion testing. By applying a slight amount of coupling agent and force, RollerFORM can provide high-quality coupling effect and obtain extremely strong signals, even in difficult to scan locations.

Main characteristics

High quality coupling effect, requiring only a small amount of coupling agent.

The acoustic impedance is similar to that of water.

A 25mm water delay block can detect composite materials with a thickness of up to 50mm.

A sound beam coverage area with a width of 51.2 millimeters.

It can be used according to the existing procedures of the aircraft manufacturer.

Standard set of components

Phased array probe with OmniScan interface.

Waterproof encoder with interface compatible with OmniScan MX2 or SX.

Laser guidance device.

Step by step clicker and "Start Collection" button.

Spare parts.

Fill/spray pumps and fittings.

Just roll the probe to get immediate results

RollerFORM, when combined with a phased array instrument such as OmniScan or FOCUS LT, can perform non-destructive testing on workpieces and materials in manufacturing and maintenance environments by using a zero degree ultrasonic beam. Common applications include quantitative analysis of delamination and porosity in composite core materials, as well as monitoring of wall thickness loss in aluminum plates. Design a RollerFORM that meets ergonomic requirements and features an integrated stepper clicker button. The inspector can use this button to collect multiple single line C-scans and merge them in real-time to form a single image, thereby drawing an image of the surface of the tested material. The built-in laser guidance device facilitates straight and precise single line scanning.

RollerFORM not only provides high-quality coupling effects, but its tires are made of a unique material that matches the acoustic impedance of water very well. This design feature can effectively propagate energy into the workpiece without generating unwanted echoes. When using a 5 MHz phased array probe model, an ideal near-field resolution of 1 millimeter can be achieved in composite materials. The 3.5 MHz phased array probe model is more suitable for detecting certain thicker and more attenuated materials. Due to the transparent material of the tires, inspectors can easily identify bubbles or pollutants present in the water tank.
